Anche la NAVY riceve gli F-35

Mercoledì 25 gennaio la US Navy Air Station di Lemoore in California ha visto l’arrivo del primo Lockheed Martin F-35C. Lemoore è la prima installazione navale della West Coast a ricevere gli F-35C assegnati in modo permanente. Entro la fine di questo anno riceverà dieci velivoli, con in programma oltre 100 esemplari entro il 2020. I quattro aerei sono stati assegnati al VFA-125 Rough Raiders, che in precedenza volava sull’F-18 Hornet, divenendo ora un Fleet Replenishment Squadron. Il gruppo riceverà non meno di 30 Lightning II. La IOC è prevista sul nuovo jet nel 2018.
Secondo la US Navy, Lemoore soddisfa le esigenze operative e riduce al minimo il potenziale impatto ambientale. A parte i gruppi FRS, Lemoore ospita sette gruppi della Marina (Flotta del Pacifico) con 10 aerei per gruppo.
